Partner Spotlight: Armis and Gigamon Help Customers Accurately Assess and Mitigate Security Risks

Armis was founded six years ago with one goal in mind: to enable enterprises to adopt new connected devices without fear of compromise by cyberattacks. The award-winning company, which started in Palo Alto and now has more than 500 employees worldwide, is the first agentless, enterprise-class security platform to address the new threat landscape of unmanaged and IoT devices.

We sat down with Peter Doggart, Chief Strategy Officer at Armis, to discuss how the Armis and Gigamon joint solution helps customers eliminate gaps in their security posture and mitigate threats before they happen.

Gigamon: Who is Armis and what is the company’s history?

Peter: Armis was founded by Yevgeny Dibrov and Nadir Izrael. They realized at the time that the explosion of digital assets with direct access to enterprise infrastructure (and everything on it) was a critical point of vulnerability. Over the past few years, that problem has only gotten exponentially worse. Armis delivers the industry’s most comprehensive asset intelligence platform, giving our customers complete asset visibility and comprehensive asset security.

Gigamon: Describe your company culture. What makes you tick?

Peter: At Armis, our customers are our top priority, and every employee is laser-focused on delivering the best experience, the most cutting-edge technology, and the best asset visibility and security on the planet. It’s a fast-paced environment with lots of moving parts, but we work well together and still take every opportunity to have a little fun.

Peter Doggart, Chief Strategy Officer at Armis.

Gigamon: If you had to describe Gigamon with just one word, what would it be?

Peter: Groundbreaking.

Gigamon: How does Gigamon help Armis solve its customers’ problems?

Peter: Armis provides unified asset visibility and security in a single platform, purpose-built for the new threat landscape of connected devices. The Gigamon Visibility and Analytics Fabric™ provides full network traffic visibility and filters, de-duplicates, decrypts, and delivers relevant traffic to the Armis platform. This joint solution reduces business risk and increases security by providing real-time and continuous protection for managed, unmanaged, and IoT devices.

Gigamon: What are some of your market’s specifics, advantages, and challenges when it comes to network security and visibility/IoT?

Peter: In an average enterprise infrastructure, 80 to 90 percent of the connected devices are unmanaged, which means you can’t install an agent on them. That leaves them, and everything they’re connected to, vulnerable to attack. This leads to a major problem with ransomware, and truthfully, no one is immune. From schools to governments to businesses large and small, we’re seeing this ransomware problem continue to grow at alarming rates.

By gaining visibility, you gain control and security, you eliminate the gaps in your security posture, and you position yourself to proactively mitigate these sorts of threats before they happen. At the end of the day, that’s the sort of value that our joint solution delivers.

Gigamon: Which Gigamon features stand out the most and make the product outstrip its competitors?

Peter: The Gigamon Visibility and Analytics Fabric is unique in its ability to deliver valuable insights into network traffic on hybrid networks. And the Gigamon–Armis integration is carefully designed to ensure that the data making it to our platform is clean and actionable — de-duped, decrypted, and ready to deliver immediate time to value.

Gigamon: What is the most memorable moment associated with Gigamon as a partner?

Peter: Together, Gigamon and Armis help ensure stronger security, compliance, and business continuity. So, it’s seeing customers rest easy knowing they have full visibility and control over 100 percent of their assets.

Gigamon: What are some of the new challenges you see in the market that the partnership with Gigamon can solve?

Peter: We’ll continue to evolve to stay one step ahead of the bad actors, but one of the big challenges we see with many asset visibility solutions is bad data. If your data is bad, so is your response to that data. With Gigamon and Armis, our customers know they’re getting clean, accurate data that provides a deep level of asset intelligence. What we deliver is actionable and instills confidence in our customers.

Gigamon: What are some of the positive business outcomes that have resulted as a Gigamon alliance partner?

Peter: Our companies are uniquely positioned to be complementary in a way that truly elevates what we deliver to our joint customers. Our individual solutions are better together; the sum is clearly greater than the individual parts. We look at our partnership as a huge benefit to our end users, but we also see a lot of opportunities for our two organizations to co-innovate together and keep pushing the envelope of what’s possible.

Gigamon: Who is the target audience for our joint solution, and how do they benefit?

Peter: For us, the target audience is typically a SecOps audience, so everyone from the CISO to the security admin. But we also talk to the CIO or even CEO, because ultimately the value we deliver is felt by the business as a whole. If your network isn’t secure, nothing is secure. If you can’t see, manage, and secure every connected asset, then your network simply isn’t safe.

Gigamon: Which verticals or segments are the best target companies? Where have you seen success and why?

Peter: Our solution is relevant to any enterprise of any size, but we tend to see a lot of asset complexity and vulnerability coming out of a couple of environments. Healthcare, for example, is experiencing device proliferation, and a lot of the devices — such as heart-rate monitors or ventilators that traditionally had air gaps — are now fully connected and act as easy entry points for ransomware and hackers.

The IT/OT convergence that’s been happening in manufacturing is a similar story. Everything is smart today, everything is connected, and everything needs to be seen and secured. That’s what Armis and Gigamon do so well together and why we’re so proud to be one of your alliance partners.

Gigamon: Thank you, Peter, for making time for us and for being such a wonderful partner.
