Gigamon and Nutanix Team Up to Provide Network and Application Visibility for Hyperconverged Private Clouds

Nutanix, founded in 2009, helps simplify cloud complexity with an open, software-defined hybrid multicloud platform that allows businesses the freedom to focus on what they do best.

Nutanix recently partnered with Gigamon to launch the Gigamon GigaVUE® Cloud Suite for Nutanix, which helps deliver end-to-end solutions for private clouds. We sat down with Aditya Kammula, Technology Alliance Manager at Nutanix, to learn more about how the company’s partnership with Gigamon is moving their business forward and offering tremendous value to its customers.

Gigamon: Who is Nutanix, and what is the company’s history?

Aditya: Nutanix is headquartered in San Jose, California. We are a passionate team of more than 6,000 employees worldwide and a global leader in cloud software. Nutanix is also a pioneer in hyperconverged infrastructure solutions, making clouds invisible, and freeing customers to focus on their business outcomes. Organizations around the world use our software to leverage a single platform to manage any app — at any location — for their hybrid multicloud environments.

Gigamon: Describe your company culture. What makes you tick?

Aditya: One of the things that makes Nutanix such a special organization is our core values: hungry, humble, and honest — with heart. We demonstrate humility at Nutanix in many ways, including by being respectful of differences. That said, the thing I like most about Nutanix is the open and transparent communication that enables every Nutanix employee to build community and collaborate with colleagues. 

Gigamon: What are the positive business outcomes as a Gigamon alliance partner?

Aditya: Our partnership with Gigamon benefits both organizations at various stages of the sales cycle with improved mindshare, increased share of voice, and an amplified pipeline. We have witnessed significant traction with reseller inquiries and channel-led opportunities that we are extremely stoked about, all within one year of introducing the joint solution.

More importantly, the joint solution offers immense value to our customers and prospects alike, enabling organizations to embrace and adopt a hybrid cloud approach with complete visibility and control.

Gigamon: If you had to describe Gigamon with just one word, what would it be?

Aditya: Disruptive.

Gigamon: How does Nutanix work together with Gigamon to solve your customers’ problems?

Aditya: The GigaVUE Cloud Suite for Nutanix enhances network performance, security, and IT agility with complete visibility across all layers of traffic. This solution aggregates, optimizes, and delivers the right traffic to the right tools so organizations can better protect their network, improve performance, and prevent outages.

Gigamon: What are some of your market’s specifics, advantages, and challenges when it comes to network and application visibility in the cloud?

Aditya: Organizations managing modern applications deployed on hybrid clouds require complete visibility at packet and application layers. Administrators need insights into all virtual machines (VMs) and containers to fully understand traffic flows and avoid blind spots. GigaVUE Cloud Suite for Nutanix helps deliver end-to-end solutions for hybrid clouds, including:

  • Provides packet and application-layer visibility for distributed virtual workloads in Nutanix AHV-powered private clouds
  • Delivers VM flows of interest to the Gigamon Visibility and Analytics Fabric™ for aggregation and advanced processing
  • Automates the provisioning and configuration of Gigamon fabric components with tight integration with Nutanix Prism
  • Nutanix Flow and GigaVUE Fabric Manager enable granular traffic selection within micro-segmented security groups

Gigamon: What is the most memorable moment associated with Gigamon as a partner?

Aditya: Although my association with Chris and Helena at Gigamon has been short, the instant comradery is something I have enjoyed. It has been a pleasure to work with the Gigamon team!

Gigamon: What are the “wow” moments associated with working with Gigamon?

Aditya: For our mutual partners, the Gigamon–Nutanix e-learning sales enablement tool is something I am proud of and in awe of. The tool departs from the standard, text-heavy presentations and offers a multi-modality format for maximum learning outcome.

Gigamon: Which Gigamon features stand out the most and make the product outstrip its competitors?

Aditya: Unparalleled visibility is one feature that stands out the most. IT teams can identify more than 3,500 applications and direct the right traffic to the right tool with contextual insights.

Gigamon also allows for improved tool effectiveness and optimized traffic processing and distribution with complete application visibility, all while reducing tool load. It empowers management teams who can take advantage of single-pane-of-glass fabric management and simplify tasks with full automation.

Gigamon: Who is the target audience (such as SecOps, NetOps, DevOps) for our joint solution, and how do they benefit?

Aditya: From the Nutanix standpoint, the target profiles include virtualization and infrastructure administrators. Gigamon sellers typically sell to security, cloud, or network operation teams. We recommend having a top-down account approach, directed to those C-Level, VP, and CIOs working on public/private cloud deployments.

Gigamon: Which verticals/segments are the best target companies where we have seen success and why?

Aditya: Customers running Nutanix HCI solutions or prospects considering private cloud deployments that require a comprehensive network monitoring solution, with complete packet or application-level visibility, are best suited for the solution. The solution is industry agnostic and includes government institutions, global enterprises, and high-growth organizations.

Gigamon: What are some of the new challenges you see in the market that the partnership with Gigamon can solve?

Aditya: The partnership with Gigamon can help with the move to hybrid cloud deployments, for both private and public environments, where both companies have solutions that support multi-cloud deployments with a single unified architecture.

The dramatic expansion of the use of ephemeral and dynamic workloads is mutually supported with Nutanix Live Migration. Gigamon enables customers to automatically and continually ensure visibility into workloads as they are created or relocated.

Observability is an emerging concept where customers need more than monitoring; they require the ability to understand why issues are occurring and predict them using artificial intelligence and machine learning. Gigamon’s deep observability pipeline is integrated into observability tool vendors such as New Relic and Data Dog.
